"Linstead Market" is a Jamaican folk song that tells the touching story of a mother who goes to the market to sell her fruit, but does not sell any. She frets about the disappointment of her children (a.k.a. pickney) who are awaiting for her return. The Special Music School Percussion Ensemble reinvents this piece in a very cool way.
Elisha also performs a solo from a group he previously worked with called "Buiti Biabi," a piece of the Garifuna culture. He is accompanied by his fellow members of the Special Music School Percussion Ensemble. This video is from their performance at the Special Music School Chamber Music Recital on June 1, 2015 in Kaufman Music Center's Ann Goodman Recital Hall. |
