About Elisha Jimenez, Percussionist + Aspiring Composer
Elisha Jimenez, born and raised in New York City is a youth percussionist and an aspiring composer. He developed his talent and passion for music/percussion at his elementary school, Central Park East 2, with his former music teacher, DeVeor Rainey. He has recently played repertoire such as "Here's to the Ratamacue" by John S. Pratt, "Clapping Music" by Steve Reich, and "Chonlima" by Julie Angelis.
Elisha has worked with groups such as the Speaking in Rhythms Percussion Ensemble, Special Music School Percussion Ensemble, and Face the Music. He has also previously worked with the students at the Enrichment Program of the Church of St. Mark's, Episcopal in Brooklyn, being an assistant teacher to them as they studied cultural percussion. In summer 2015, he played the percussion part to Leroy Anderson's "Fiddle Faddle" in Kaufman Music Center's Summer String Fest. He also participated in the World Drumming Class at Lucy Moses School in New York City. Elisha is a 7th grader (in the school year of 15-16) at the Special Music School (P.S. 859) and studies contemporary music & techniques for mallet instruments (marimba, xylophone, etc.) and unpitched percussion (snare drum, bongos, floor tom drums, etc.) with Chris Graham. In the school year of 2015-16, he will join ComposerCraft, a composition workshop at Kaufman Music Center's Lucy Moses School, led by Robin McClellan. His composition, Caribbean Counterpoint, was also chosen to be a part of Face the Music's repertoire in June 2016. A special thanks to DeVeor Rainey, my mom Alena, my dad Miguel, Aunt Magda, Uncle Steve, and Cousin Andy for all their support! - Elisha :-) |
